Grocery Budgets

Example of an American grocery store aisle.Image via WikipediaI set a grocery budget of $300 for the month because are eating out of the freezer and pantry this month. We have been doing such a good job of using up leftovers and eating frugally that we have barely emptied the freezer.

So far, we have spent $169.60 of our budget. That was mostly fruit and veggies - with a larger than I would like to admit ($16) amount for junk food type snacks. There was also a smallish chunk of money spent for holiday baking supplies.

It got to the point where closing the freezer was getting harder - and it is a chest freezer! Even though things are foodsavered (yes, it is a word - now) before they go in there, I don't think hanging out in the freezer month after month is the best thing for food.

The plan is to eat out of the freezer every few months so that we can make sure that all of my stocking up is used for something.
